With the exception of the University Townhouses, all residence halls are provided with on-campus basic cable service which provides more than 100 channels of programming and is included in the housing rates. The current TV channel TV line up can be found here. In addition, you have the option to purchase premium services such as HBO or Showtime for a small additional charge. Visit Campus Televideo to learn about ordering these premium services. Townhouse residence may arrange their own cable service with a local cable provider.
Campus Safety
An important benefit students receive on campus is a 24-hour response by University Police. The George Mason University Police Department is professionally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for the Law Enforcement Agencies. Additionally, contract security guards patrol during certain hours in all residential areas.
Housekeeping and Maintenance
Our housekeeping and maintenance staff are at your service to ensure that your living environment is in proper working order and common areas are clean. While the housekeeping staff does not clean individual rooms during the school year or summer while occupied by residents, they do clean all common areas including bathrooms, stairwells, lobbies, halls and grounds. All trash is removed daily.
If you have a problem in your room or housing area and need assistance, submit a work order through the housing website or dial 4-WORK (4-9675) from campus; from cell phones, townhouses, or off-campus, dial 703-993-2793. When reporting problems, please give your building, room number and a complete description of the problem. Concerns can be submitted 24 hours a day.
If there is an emergency, such as flooding or another concern that directly impacts the safety and security of the residence hall, please contact your Area Desk. Requests should be made through area desks in emergencies only.
Internet
All residents are provided high speed internet service. Townhouse residents have a wireless connection only. Potomac Heights and Housing VII rooms have both wired and wireless connections. All other residence halls have wired internet connections. Potomac Heights, Liberty Square, and Eisenhower halls have wireless lounges. Our other lounges have wired connections.
Heating and Air Conditioning
It is not possible to change from heat to air conditioning on a daily basis in most facilities. These services are turned on/off once a year through the Physical Plant, when there is a consistent weather pattern and the change is warranted.
Units in Patriot’s Village, Potomac Heights, Liberty Square, and the University Townhouses have individual heating and air conditioning equipment. All other areas will be subject to the once-a-year switching schedule.
Laundry
Each townhouse has a washer/dryer in the unit. All other buildings have laundry facilities in their areas. Laundry, to a set limit, is included in housing payments. In 2006, Mason launched E-Suds, an innovative on-line laundry system giving residents the ability to:
- Go on-line to check if washers & dryers are available in their laundry room
- Use their student ID to activate the wash and dry cycles
- Receive notification that their wash and dry cycles are complete via email, cell phone or PDA
Mail
Townhouse residents receive their mail at the complex directly from the US Postal Service. All other on-campus residents are provided mailboxes in the Students Union Building II (SUB II). Information regarding your mailing address is provided with the housing assignment prior to check-in.
Meal Options
Most on-campus residents are required to select a Resident Meal Plan. Students living in the campus apartments and townhouses, as well as seniors (having completed 90 credit hours), are not required, but often choose to have a meal plan; plans for Students with Kitchens are popular.
Microfridge
Save money and time with your very own MicroFridge! Enjoy healthy snacks and the convenience of having a MicroFridge combination appliance (refrigerator, freezer, and microwave) in your dorm room. Eat what you want...when you want. It's like bringing a little bit of home with you to college.
Parking Services
Parking is available to all students. Decals are required to park on University property year round. Students should register their vehicle with the Office of Parking Services in Student Union Building II as soon as possible.
ResTech
A Resident Technician Program is offered during the regular academic year (fall and spring semesters) to provide computer support for resident students.
Restrooms
Community restrooms in Presidents Park and University Commons receive housekeeping service. Residents in all apartments and suite-style rooms are responsible for cleaning their own bathrooms as well as providing their own supplies: cleaners, toilet paper, etc.
Ruckus
Ruckus is a completely legal and advertising supported music service geared exclusively to the college community. All students with a valid school email (.edu) have free unlimited access to the entire Ruckus music library.
By signing up you can:
- Get free unlimited download access.

Telephone
George Mason provides local phone service (no hook-up fee or monthly charge) and individual voice-mail service for each resident. with the exception of the University Townhouses. Townhouse residents may arrange service through the phone company of their choice.
There has been sharp decline in the use of campus voicemail in the past few years. While voice mail is still available at no additional cost on your residence hall phone, it will not automatically be activated unless you specifically request it. If you would like to have voicemail on your residence hall phone line, you must request it on-line here: http://tsd.gmu.edu/net/Forms/Student_voicemail_request.html. Once a request is submitted, voicemail activation will take about 3 days.
