Welcome 2009 Interns and Companies!
Interns
George Mason University's Summer Intern Housing is open to students enrolled in any college or university with an internship in the DC or Northern Virginia Area.
Dates
Housing is available from 5 PM on Sunday, 5/24/2009 until 5 PM on Saturday, 8/1/2009. Interns must stay at least 30 nights, but may choose their dates within this time range. The service desk will be closed on 5/25/2009 for Memorial Day and 7/4/2009 for Independence Day; interns may not check in or out on these days.
Accommodations
Accommodations are located in the York River Corner (YRC) area, which is made up of Liberty Square (opened in 2003) and Potomac Heights (opened in 2004). Each 4-bedroom apartment is fully-furnished and air-conditioned with two bathrooms, a living area, and a kitchen. Interns will have their own bedroom and share the rest of the apartment with 3 other college students. Floor plans are available here.Utilities (including laundry up to what we deem is the "average" amount), campus cable, and internet (wired and wireless) are included. A service desk will be open daily (with the exception of Memorial Day and Independence Day) to assist students with questions, concerns, and lock-outs.
Public Transportation
While Mason is not directly off of a metro line, we do have shuttle and bus systems. Visit the Metro website, enter "George Mason Univ" next to "Travel From", and make your place of internship your "Travel To" destination. A bus/metro route will be suggested for you. You may visit the CUE bus website for more information on the city of Fairfax buses ($1.35 per ride). Mason also offers a free shuttle service called "Mason to Metro"; shuttles run from outside Mason's Parking Services to the Vienna Metro station, Monday - Friday. In 2008, shuttles ran from 6 AM to 12 AM, every half hour. We will post this summer's schedule as soon as we get it!
Parking on Campus (optional)
Interns with cars will need to purchase either a Summer Semester Permit for $55 or a Monthly Permit for $50. Permits can be purchased in person at Parking Services (Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5 PM) or by mail. If you are not able to purchase you permit in person, please plan to purchase your permits by mail at least 10 days before your arrival. Intern parking is available in Lot R, located right outside Potomac Heights and Liberty Square. If Lot R is full (which has yet to happen in the summer), interns (with permits) may park in any General Lot on campus. Parking Permit Instructions and Form are located here.
Aquatic Center (optional)
Interns are invited to become members of the Aquatic and Fitness Center for the summer. Located next to York River Corner, the Aquatic Center houses a 50-meter swimming pool, an instructional and recreational swimming pool, a "free weight" room, a fitness gallery and an aerobics/multi-purpose room. Summer membership is $75 and can be arranged in person with the Aquatic Center. Visit the Aquatic and Fitness Center at http://www.gmu.edu/service/aquatics/.
