Welcome Interns and Companies!
2008 Intern housing is no longer available. Information about the summer 2009 season will be posted in March 2009.
Interns
George Mason University's Summer Intern Housing is open to students enrolled in college with an internship in the DC or Northern Virginia Area.
Dates
Housing is available from 5 PM on Sunday, 5/25/2008 until 5 PM on Saturday, 8/2/2008. Interns must stay at least 30 nights, but may choose their dates within this time range. The service desk will be closed on 5/26/2008 for Memorial Day and 7/4/2008 for Independence Day; interns may not check in or out on these days.
Accommodations
Accommodations are located in the York River Corner (YRC) area, which is made up of Liberty Square and Potomac Heights, our newest apartment-style residence halls. Each 4-bedroom apartment is fully-furnished and air-conditioned with two bathrooms, a living area, and a kitchen. Interns will have their own bedroom and share the rest of the apartment with 3 other college students. Utilities (including laundry up to what we deem is the "average" amount), campus cable, and internet (wired and wireless) are included. A YRC service desk will be open daily (with the exception of Memorial Day and Independence Day) to assist students with questions, concerns, and lock-outs.
Rates and Payments (2008)
A single bedroom in a 4-bedroom apartment is available for $26 per person, per night. A $182 non-refundable deposit is due upon submission of your application; the deposit covers the first week's stay. The Balance of Stay is due by/on scheduled arrival date. Visa, Mastercard, checks, and money orders are accepted. In addition, valid credit card information must be submitted for possible charges related to damages, un-returned keys, additional cleaning, and outstanding housing charges.
Summer Projects
Please be aware that summer is often our best opportunity to address building issues and improvements that may at times be inconvenient to residents. As we become aware of an inconvenience to you, we will post the information on our website and in our halls and try to diminish the inconvenience of it as much as possible.
Public Transportation
While Mason is not directly off of a metro line, we do have a bus system. Visit the Metro website at www.wmata.com, enter "George Mason Univ" next to "Travel From", and make your place of internship your "Travel To" destination. A bus/metro route will be suggested for you. You may visit the city of Fairfax's CUE bus system ($.75 per ride) at www.CUEBus.org for more information on Fairfax buses. Mason also offers a shuttle service called "Mason to Metro"; shuttles run from outside Parking Services to the Vienna Metro station, Monday - Friday, 6 AM - 12 AM, every half hour. For more information please visit http://shuttle.gmu.edu/ .
Parking
Interns with cars will need to purchase either a Summer Semester Permit for $50 or a Monthly Permit for $40, depending on the length of stay. Permits can be purchased in person at Parking Services (Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5 PM) or by mail. If you are not able to purchase you permit in person, please plan ahead! We expect summer permits to go on sale 5/1/2008 thought our Parking Services office. Intern parking is available in Lot R, located right outside Potomac Heights and Liberty Square. Click here to fill out a parking application or read more about parking.
Aquatic Center (optional)
Interns are invited to become members of the Aquatic and Fitness Center for the summer. Located next to York River Corner, the Aquatic Center houses a 50-meter swimming pool, an instructional and recreational swimming pool, a "free weight" room, a fitness gallery and an aerobics/multi-purpose room. Summer membership is $60. You can visit the Aquatic and Fitness Center at http://www.gmu.edu/service/aquatics/ .
